In light of the current political climate, the upcoming release of Golda, a biopic about former Israeli Prime Minister, Golda Meir (1898-1978), with Dame Helen Mirren in the title role, may further inflame community tensions in Australia over the Israel-Gaza war. In other markets where the film has been released, anti-Israel activists and antisemites have used the film to attack Israel, and Meir herself, calling her a racist who oversaw war crimes, that the film is Israeli propaganda, and to assert that the Israeli government is genocidal.
Closer to home, one can imagine activists calling for the film to be boycotted, or disrupting screenings of the film to bring attention to their cause.
