You make a mistake, my friend

Have you every heard of vidkeo? No, neither have I. It is not even an alternate spelling of video in a language other than English. It also is not how Sean Connery would pronounce the word in his thick Scottish brogue.

If the library that created this catalogue record ever advertises for a cataloguer, and specifies that they need to have excellent attention to detail, I'll binge watch all the mediocre James Bond movies, starting with 1967's You Only Live Twice.

The sheikh of Edinburgh

I spent part of this afternoon watching The Wind and the Lion, Sean Connery's 1975 film in which he appeared with Candice Bergen. I'm loath to criticise an actor of Connery's calibre, but he doesn't have a strong facility for accents. His thick Scottish brogue prevents him from sounding convincing in his role as the Sheikh, Raisuli. Fortunately he compensates for this with his considerable screen presence.

Brian Keith played former American president Theodore Roosevelt. I mention this because other actors in the film fail to consistently pronounce his surname correctly. The second "O" is silent. It's not that hard. This minor flaw doesn't detract from what is otherwise a good film. The locations are well photographed, and the action sequences impressively staged. It's worth watching if you're looking for a way of filling in a wet weekend afternoon.
