A marvel and a wonder?

I've watched the South Park episode, seen the stage musical, read books about it, watched videos about it, listened to podcasts about it. Now it's time to read one of its core source texts. As an educational exercise, I am gradually working my way through The Book of Mormon.

Mormons believe this to be an inspired religious text, equal in status to the Bible itself. Mainline Christians will hopefully feel differently about it, and at the very least, be aware of its problematic origins, but that is another story.

All American prophet

Poster illustrates a man mid-jump, clad in a uniform common to Mormon missionaries.I went to see The Book of Mormon on Tuesday night. Mormons may be offended, but I thought it was a funny and clever satire of Mormon beliefs and practices. It was gentle without being malicious. I wish more satirists would take that approach towards religion, especially Christianity.

I don't know how many Christians were in the audience. I'm guessing that most of the audience were secular; either atheist or agnostic. If so, I pray that they will come to faith in the one true God, and Jesus Christ, whom He has sent.
