Rotten paper
This is disappointing. Due to many years of underfunding, the collections of the National Archives of Australia, a valuable national asset, are being left to rot. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, $67 million in government funding is urgently needed to digitise those records most at risk, but the Archives were not allocated extra money to enable this work to be carried out. Instead, it has resorted to crowdfunding, which has so far raised only $30,000. One hopes that this situation will be addressed as soon as possible.
