Cause for concern?
Following Victoria's lead, Queensland and Western Australia plan to legalise euthanasia. Well regarded lawyer, Paul Santamaria, son of the prominent Catholic social activist, Bob Santamaria, has raised concerns that safeguards in the draft legislation will be inadequate to protect the elderly and other vulnerable people will not be worth the paper they're printed on. Put simply, a chronically ill senior citizen may feel pressured to prematurely end their life after their doctor mentions that euthanasia is available to them. It makes one anticipate old age with some trepidation.
