As Australia prepares for this year's federal election, which will be called in a matter of days, and the depressing prospect of Bill Shorten becoming its next Prime Minister, voters in Indonesia will elect a new president later this month.
Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has alleged discrepancies in the electoral roll, with millions of voters not registered with a valid birthdate, or failing to provide correct province identification numbers. Electoral fraud is a significant problem in Indonesia.
This article from the Sydney Morning Herald begs the question, what is an electoral role? Seriously, though, voting is a democratic right that I hope the people of Indonesia do not take for granted.
