Presented for the first time in stereo sound

If you had AM easy listening radio inflicted on you in the 1980s, this song would be familiar to you. John Rowles, born in 1947, must surely be one of New Zealand's most significant musical exports. If I Only Had Time, released in 1968, has poignant and powerful lyrics.

I thought it was daggy when I was a kid. Listening to it again as an adult, I appreciate it more.

Leave it alone

One of the characteristics of leftist activists is deconstructionism. Part of this means intentionally hijacking cultural symbols to promote their own causes. Some of them have started a social media campaign to use Anzac Day to raise awareness of offshore detainees on Manus Island. This strikes me as highly disrespectful to the day, which is about commemorating Australian and New Zealand military service personnel. As a day of solemn observance and reflection for most Australians and New Zealanders, it should not be appropriated for partisan political causes. There are other days in the year for that.

Colour blindness

Channel 9 News used the New Zealand flag instead of the Australian flag in graphics in a story about Australia Day. It's an honest mistake. It could happen to anybody. It is so easy to confuse them. Both flags are royal blue, and have the Union Jack in the top left hand corner. On the right hand side, the New Zealand flag has four red stars with white borders. The Australian flag has the Southern cross on the right hand side, and underneath the Union Jack is the seven-pointed Commonwealth star, which represents each of Australia's states and territories.
