This is a fidget spinner. Until last weekend, I had no idea these were a thing. They're the latest toy fad, and are supposed to be beneficial for children who have attention disorders.
This is a three-pronged design. Five pronged versions are also available. They almost remind me of the Glaive, the magical weapon from the 1983 fantasy film, Krull.

We saw them when we were in NYC. They were being sold on various stands around the city. Then I saw a man playing with one on the ferry. I got this idea that it was not a real fad, and these clever salespeople were trying to trick everyone into thinking it was a fad. I imagined the guy on the boat was a seller of the objects PRETENDING to be a customer. But then my son told me...no, he had heard of them before.
Have you tried one out yet?
I wonder if it's helpful to people who constantly need to be fidgeting with something. It MIGHT be an alternative to picking at one's nails or tearing out one's eyebrow hairs.
Now I feel compelled to buy one for myself, just to see what all the fuss is about. A couple of kids had them at church last Sunday.
I didn't have to buy one after all. I picked one up for free on Sunday at a university open day.
