Soul destroying

Just some more random thoughts on Kevin Rudd, the former Australian Prime Minister who, to maintain his public profile and relevance, uses social media to provide a running commentary on what he sees as the incompetence of the current Prime Minister, and the state premiers of the Prime Minister's political party.

Now I am going to put on my harsh hat. Yes that's not a typo. This is partially influenced by the work of prominent Canadian academic and clinical psychologist, Jordan Petersen. This former Prime Minister is not the only man to lose a career that he thought was his vocation. Rather than take responsibility for his own actions, he would rather blame others, such as hostile news outlets, for the end of his political career. On the surface of things, it also strikes me as interesting that a self-identifying Christian seems so bitter and unforgiving. Is he going to spend the rest of his life dwelling on this?

To a receptive audience of social media followers, he also provides many examples of what he perceives as the biased news media coverage of Rupert Murdoch's tabloid newspapers of the pandemic. They accept his analysis without question. Looking at the demographic data published by market research companies, tabloid newspaper readers, such as the Herald Sun, are typically low to middle income earners, whereas readers of the Sydney Morning Herald, and its counterparts, usually have a more affluent profile. Lower to middle income earners are also traditionally Labor voters, also known as the "working families" that this former Prime Minister actively sought the support of in election campaigns.

If he pushes this stuff too heavily, he not only risks tarnishing his legacy, but also alienating Labor voters. As the Mocker, an anonymous columnist observed in 2018, in comments that remain valid today, without overtly stating it, he displays a condescending attitude towards a significant section of the Australian population, implying that they lack critical thinking skills, and blindly accept as fact whatever their newspapers tell them.
