Robotic

As children of the 1980s my brother and I were huge Transformers fans. With some anticipation last weekend we went to see the much hyped and anticipated Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. My appraisal is that it was good, but by no means great. While director Michael Bay seems to excel at serving up spectacular action sequences, pyrotechnics and impressive displays of military hardware, these are undermined by an at times incoherent screenplay. Subplots aren't properly resolved, and new robot characters, such as the Constructicons and the female Autobot Arcee, who are given inadequate screen time, are summarily introduced and then killed off without being properly introduced. All of this is somewhat confusing for the viewer. As a visually and sonically impressive popcorn movie that isn't very demanding to watch, it works at the same level as its predecessor. If you know what to expect, you won't be overly disappointed.

Was Steve Jablonsky's score any good? I've heard it's downmixed out a little too much in the film but stacks up well on the album.

What you've heard is right. I was too distracted by the visual and sound effects, and trying to follow the plot to listen to the score.
