What a web we weave

Computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, the uber-boffin responsible for creating the World Wide Web, has created an archive of what was the world's first website, put online in August 1991. This was a watershed moment in the development of the Internet, which began life in the defence and academic communities. From these humble beginnings, little did he know that from this point on up to the present day, his invention would eventually pervade almost every aspect of our lives, changing the way we work, communicate with one another, travel, learn, do business, socialise, express opinions, waste time, and pollute our minds with various forms of unsavoury content. PS: I'll also give bragging rights to anyone who can identify the computer in this picture.

You forgot to mention something along the lines of 'achieve sexual gratification through porn' for the huge amount of people (mainly men) who view pornography on the internet. I wonder if the inventor would have had any suspicion that the internet would be used in such perverse ways?

But at least blogging is good heh?

Hello Lance,

Yes, I forgot to mention the dark
side of the Internet. Thanks for pointing that out.

Would it be the Tandy Radio Shack TRS-80 "Color Computer" (also called Tandy Color Computer, or CoCo) a home computer launched in 1980?

Yes, well spotted. A couple of my school friends owned the TRS-80 back in the day.
