Real men

Part of my annual leave was devoted to reading the book Tender Warrior by Stu Weber. It has a very American flavour, and some of Weber's material deals with men as husbands and fathers, neither of which applies to my situation. Nevertheless, it was well worth reading. A Christian is a follower of Christ. As Weber explains, by the example of his life, Jesus showed us what being a Christian man is all about, as did other great men of God like Moses, Joshua, Caleb, Job, and the apostles Peter and Paul, to name but a few. A godly man has a vision, with his identity and purpose based on where he stands in the eyes of his Creator.

He provides, protects, guides, and teaches with a compassionate heart. He is an initiator. He is a friend. With determination, he perseveres in his faith and the challenges that life presents him. He keeps his word and has integrity. He communicates and is emotionally present for his loved ones. Above all, he leads in submission to his Master, Jesus Christ. He is accountable to God for the way in which he exercises his authority, and must lead with humility and an attitude of service, and not be overbearing or domineering.

My prayer is that God will do whatever it takes to make me that man, and regardless of whether or not you're a husband or father, I hope it's your's as well.

Ross, so that is your vision and purpose in life?

If you mean to be what God wants me to be, then I guess the answer is yes.
