However if you are looking to say that Mormons worship more than one God than no. I believe that the Bible is consistant with my belief that there are three seperate beings who make up one governing body called the Godhead. Do Mormons believe that it's possible for human beings to achieve goodhood? Mormon missionaries have told me this themselves.

Thanks for the links. I'll have a look at them.Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08827731848618933239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27452066.post-81543882509800188082009-09-10T06:11:56.536+10:002009-09-10T06:11:56.536+10:00Hi Ross,
Thank you for your response.
You're ...Hi Ross,

Thank you for your response.
You're getting closer, but you are still relying on sources outside the LDS church for what the LDS church teaches. To put it another way, look to the source if you want to find out what a church really teaches. If I always looked at DC to find out what Christianity teaches I think I would be mislead a lot, human sacrifice is a good example of this. Do you believe in human sacrifice? I highly doubt it but according to a couple of posts at DC you do. So lets just look at what you listed and see if there a good representaion of LDS beliefs or not.

*Mormonism is polytheistic, believing that each person of the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is a separate god, and other gods, which conflicts with the Orthodox Christian doctrine of the Trinity of there only being one God in three persons.

We actually believe that the three are one Godhead but three distict persons. Which sounds suspiciously like what you said orthodox christians believe. And I don't know what "other Gods" were refered to but there are no other Gods in LDS belief. As for a Mother in heaven let me just point you to an article written about that.

* Jesus Christ is a created being who was conceived by God the Father having sex with Mary.

I don't know exactly how Mary became impregnated with Christ because it is believed that it was by the power of the Holy Ghost. It is not taught that God and Mary had sex.

Nor is he the brother of Lucifer

Cna righteous people have evil brothers? It seems that scritpures are full of both righteous and evil people. Cain and Abel come to mind. But Lucifer the brother of Jesus?

Mormon salvation is by works

This has to be the most hotly debated topic I know of to date. First salvation is by works and Christ did that work for us. The "work" you are refering to happens to be things like keeping the commandments, following the teachings of Christ, and the like. you do the same thing but you call them the fruits of being saved I believe, I could be wrong though and please correct me if I am. We are saved by grace but we are in a covenant relationship with God that he will provide our salvation and asks that we keep his commandments, and repent of our sins, and follow the perfect example that Christ set for us. Keep, follow, and repent are all actions that we covenant to do with our baptism so that His grace can save us. I don't have time today to finish your points but here are a couple of sites you can browse through for more official descriptions of LDS belief.

The Official LDS website, where there is a free online copy of the the scriptures used by the LDS church.

A scholar apologetic site with a good amount of research into doctrine topics.

And last for today, a blog written by an LDS member, who also does a website separate from the blog and has some evidence listed to support the Book of Mormon.Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05816549810869986623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27452066.post-91610698360867327362009-09-03T18:45:28.909+10:002009-09-03T18:45:28.909+10:00Hello Rich,
I'm going to attempt to answer y...Hello Rich,

I'm going to attempt to answer your question in dot point form.

*Mormonism is polytheistic, believing that each person of the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is a separate god, and other gods, which conflicts with the Orthodox Christian doctrine of the Trinity of there only being one God in three persons. There is also nothing in the Bible to support the idea that God the Father is married to a Mother God, with all human life being their offspring.

*Rather than being eternally God, as Christians believe, God the Father was once an ordinary man who attained godhood.

* Jesus Christ is a created being who was conceived by God the Father having sex with Mary. Christian belief is that he is the second person of the Trinity, also eternal, but was born and lived as a man on the earth in the incarnation, which miraculously took place by the power of the Holy Spirit. Nor is he the brother of Lucifer. It was always intended that Jesus would be the Saviour of humanity. He did not have to contend against Lucifer to get this role.

*The Holy Ghost is thought of as a distinct person and a spirit, but the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force. Christian doctrine is clear that the Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost are different names for the same person of the Godhead, who is a distinct personality and not an impersonal force.

*Good Mormons will one day attain godhood, just as God the Father did before them, and get to rule over their own planets. Christian doctrine holds that the eternal destiny of redeemed humanity is to eternally share with God in the blessings of a redeemed creation, but not as gods.

*Mormon salvation is by works, and is possible after death. Hence the Mormon practice of baptism by proxy, where living relatives of a deceased person can be baptised on their behalf and give them salvation. Christian doctrine affirms clearly that there is no possibility of salvation after death.

This was compiled from sources that refer to Mormon teachings, so I hope I've been able to do this without misrepresenting your beliefs.Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08827731848618933239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27452066.post-39012390692048410192009-08-31T05:24:13.934+10:002009-08-31T05:24:13.934+10:00Residents saw them as a political, social and econ...Residents saw them as a political, social and economic threat

Do you realize that a large portion of this threat was due to the Mormons belief in abolition?Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13370001809898738399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27452066.post-1017398473120833082009-08-31T01:28:13.636+10:002009-08-31T01:28:13.636+10:00Hi Ross,
